[Deathlies]

RiverLullaby

Once morning had broken and the sun shimmered in and danced on the the cold stone walls of the Warrior's Den, Riverlullaby awoke. She blinked her eyes softly before stretching and yawning. Her blue eyes squinted into little slits as she yawned and tried to agjust to the morning's light. She sat up and started to give herself a morning bath to comb and smooth down her fur from the night before. She neatly pulled out the lose moss pieces that were shedding from her nest. She smiled and prodded Bladeflame with her clean jet-black paw. Wake up sleepy head. She giggled just thinking about the shock he would see when he awoken and saw the only other cats in the den were the ones that were on night patrol and Razorwolf.

He slowly awoke and yawned softly smiling as the first thing he saw was RiverLullaby. He laughed a little because when she had poked him it had tickled him a little. I'm up.. He yawned again quietly with a smile as he began to stand up and look around.

Smiling softly she nuzzled into Bladeflame's pelt. Pressing her silver nose into it inhaling deeply and settling down with the aroma his fur naturally had. Softly sighing she got up and walked around the den before laying down near Razorwolf. Anything for us to do today? she asked the Deputy not wanting to seem useless.

His green eyes glowed as he had just awoken to Riverlullaby's voice. He looked around and saw the new cat, Bladeflame. Thinking carefully, he thought of the things a new recruit could do. He closed his black hairless eyelids before speaking in a deep sleepy voice. Well, you can either be put on Sunhigh Border Patrol, or evening hunting. Which would be easiest? he said and smirked a little. It seemed as if the new kitty-pet would be pampered for the first few days of his life here. Only a little. The rest would be like he was living in the Starless Forest.

Yawning quietly one last time for the morning, he walked over to RazorWolf to join RiverLullaby. He nodded a little in respect to RazorWolf, not sure what to say. His question was directed to RiverLullaby, but was open to an answer from either of them. What can I do? He asked calmly. He silently wondered what the Deputy thought of him.

His fern green eyes flashed open faster than a mouse's heartbeat. His pupils were almost non exigstent. His upper lip curled back in a slight snarl. Fine. If the Kitty-pet wants to act stupid, he can be treated stupid. He thought to himself. Highly immunized. Staring into Bladeflame's eyes, almost as if he was burning his soul he spoke. I do not know where you came from, Kitty-pet. But around here, we have impecable hearing. That hearing is what puts food in our bellies. No Two-leg servant will be welcomed here. If you think life here is easy. Cat, you are in for a rude awakening. I asked you when you want to go hunting or on patrol. Since you do not know either, I think I should assign you to go to RibbonStar and talk to her about turning you into an apprentice instead of a Warrior. He said sharply. There was no room for error in his clan. Turning his gaze to Riverlullaby he gave her a look as if saying Are you sure you want to be with that thing? If so, you better break him in.

He stood motionless at first, taking in what the Deputy had said. Looking into RazorWolf's eyes, he slightly lowered his head. I'm sorry RazorWolf. He apologized clearly. Great, first night at the Warriors Den and the Deputy already dislikes me and is threatening to move me. He thought to himself. Although, he had been stupid, if he had just listened better he could have answered him right away. I'd be happy to take the SunHigh Boarder Patrol.. He asked raising his head.

He smiled softly. His hard expression was slowly melting turning into the deputy RibbonStar knew and loved. His eyes softened and he looked toward Bladeflame with a bit of mercy. I am truly sorry I snapped so easily. I forgot you are new to the clan. Welcome to your new home. I'm Razorwolf and I am the deputy here at Blizzardclan. I should be kinder to all of you. For all I know, one of you could become my future Deputy. he said softly. It was a rare thing to see him apologize and since he went to sleep late and woke up well before the others, the lack was taking a toll on his body.

He smiled a little at RazorWolf. Thank you for welcoming me here. Even though he feared RazorWolf a little, he looked up to him with respect and honor, because he knew that it must be hard to be the deputy of BlizzardClan, but even though it may be difficult, RazorWolf was a nice cat at heart it seemed. Even when he was strict, it only showed that he was trying to protect the Clan from harm. He gave a slight nod and smiled.

He grunted a little. Soon I will need some extra help around the clan. Ribbonstar may be expecting kits, and if she is pregnant I will have to find a cat to fill in my place while she retires to the Nursery until the kits are old enough to be apprentices. Bladeflame, Riverlullaby, we are trying to keep this a secret. If Veldtclan knows our leader is not doing her regular duties, they may attack believing we are weak. Next meeting if she is pregnant and has not given birth yet, our alibi is she had a bad reaction to a fish she ate and she will be well soon. he said softly. Hopefully, the others would respond well to him since his mate was the leader. It wasn't like RibbonStar picked him because he was her mate. In fact, they didn't become mates until she had already picked him as Deputy. Then, after about three moons, they got to know each other a little better and he would sneak out of the warrior's den to be with her. Then they had become mates. He was wondering if he should step down as Deputy so he wouldn't need to lead the clan while heart broken over his mate's death.

He nodded slowly. After hearing about VeldtClan, he didn't doubt that they would attack us believing we were weak. Well, we can keep it secret. He thought about how bad it must be to only be able to take leadership after your mate's death. He wanted to be helpful to the Clan in every way he could.

He smiled softly and nervously. He only slept in the warriors den to keep the warriors in line and to make sure the other clan didn't realize that he and the leader were mates. I'm scare for Ribbonstar. I know that if she is found to be pregnant Veldtclan will attack. And after the kits are born, I don't know how to be a father. And then they will grow up. I will be in charge of them as will their mother. Most cats are scared they will lose their mate from illness or battle or birthing... I know I won't lose Ribbonstar from birth because of her nine lives. He said softly his voice cracking at times. He would fail at being a father. This was a conversation Razorwolf would only have with Bladeflame because of the fact Riverlullaby had excused herself to help the medicine cat stock up the herbs.

He nodded slowly, understanding the situation that the Deputy was in. The more he thought about what he had been told, the more he understood. Looking at him, he could tell he was strong both mentally and physically. Now that he got to know him a little better, he knew the Deputy was strong. He admired how he was able to keep the Clan in line. RazorWolf, I may not know too much on the subject, but it's easy to see that you make a great Deputy to this Clan. And you will be, despite whether you know how or not, an excellent father. He smiled at the Deputy, confident that his instinct was right about RazorWolf.

I have been thinking about stepping down as Deputy. The only way I could become leader is if Ribbonstar died, retired, was run out from the clan, or if she stepped down. I know she won't step down. He also didn't want his kits to feel entitled to be trained. If Ribbonstar and him only had two kits, their mentors would be their parents. They would push them harder than the clan to prove their names instead of being like their parents.

He was slightly surprised by this. He wasn't sure that if he stepped down anyone else would make as good a deputy as RazorWolf. Have you told Ribbonstar that you have though of stepping down?

Thinking it over carefully he decided he wouldn't be telling her. I don't know how she would react to it. Plus, I guess I can stay. The likely hood of her dying before me are very slim. She knows I will defend her with my life. Wasn't that what being a deputy and a mate to the leader meant? He figured he would soon find out.
